YMCA Vocational School - Clem Jones Campus

The YMCA Vocational School commenced Middle School activities in 2010. The “Y” school offers courses assisting disengaged students to achieve their full potential through positive educational studies, activities, and outcomes. At the “Y” young people will experience student centred programs dedicated to enhancing practical and personal skills, at a pace that ensures school attendance, engagement, and confidence. Importantly, all learning at the “Y” is guided by the YMCA philosophy of valuing a person’s mind, body, and spirit.

The “Y” experience gives students the chance to shape, direct, and own their future. In today’s complicated and competitive world, the capacity to appropriately control one’s destiny is so important. At the “Y” our team recognises this and helps students to negotiate and determine their own pathways – at their pace.

“Y” courses include the Key Learning Areas vital for success, at both Middle and Senior School levels. We also offer a range of social, emotional, and vocational courses and opportunities for all students. These courses include VET Certificates in Automotive, Children’s Services, and Workplace studies. The “Y” team’s goal is students’ success and confidence as valued young people in our community.  We therefore want students to be Prepared, Aware, Community-minded, and Engaged.

Personal Trainer Courses

This course is aimed at participants who would like a career in the health and fitness industry, or participants who want to improve their own health and understanding of fitness.The course gives participants units towards a Certificate III in Fitness.

Childrens Services Course

A 12 week course comprising of units towards a complete Certificate III in Children Services. Students address all areas of childcare including Workplace Health and Safety, industry placement and other vital elements of the Children Services industry.

School hours and class schedule

Session 1: 10:00am - 11:00am
Session 2: 11:00 am - 12:00pm
Lunch: 12:00pm - 12.45pm
Session 3: 12:45pm - 1:45pm
Afternoon break: 1:45pm - 2:15pm
Session 4: 2:15pm - 3:15pm
Session 5: 3:15pm - 3:45pm

Breakfast is served between 9 and 9-30am, dinner is served from 3.45 to 4.30pm.


Volunteers Wanted !!!

Volunteers are important to the YMCA providing additional support necessary for the success of Y programs.Volunteers play an integral role in the school by:

  • Mentoring students
  • Support student literacy and numeracy
  • Prepare and serve basic meals to students.
  • Supporting teachers in activities

Retired teachers, tutors, teacher aides and willing helpers are all welcome. Induction and training is provided to all volunteers.

The “Clem Jones Group” consists of various investment companies with interests in listed securities, residential commercial and industrial property, and business ventures in tourism, restaurant and accommodation facilities. The Group was established by the late Dr Clem Jones AO, and is managed by a board of independent directors. Profits generated by the group are forwarded to the “Clem Jones Foundation”. The Foundation and the Clem Jones Group continues to support the hard work and wishes of the late Dr Jones in supporting charities, youth and community development activities.
